About Us

How it all started

Chewie's Cantina Facebook group was founded by Lucas Butler on April 7, 2018. It began as a community were collectors could come together to share knowledge about their collection. It has since grown into something more: a group dedicated not only to collecting, but to supporting one another and giving back.

This site was built around two simple goals: helping fellow collectors find the pieces still missing from their collections, and giving back to the communities that make this hobby worthwhile. That commitment is built directly into every sale — 3% is set aside in a dedicated charity account, and the full balance is donated each year to a cause chosen by the Cantina.

How Payment Works

When you buy something on Chewie's Cantina, you pay the seller directly through PayPal — the full item price and shipping goes straight to them, immediately. We never hold your money or sit in the middle of the transaction.

3%

Set aside for our Charity Account on every sale — 100% of it donated in full each year to a charity chosen by the Cantina. We don't retain any cut for the site ourselves.

PayPal Fee

PayPal charges its standard processing fee on the direct payment from buyer to seller — the same as any online payment, and the only PayPal fee involved.

Since sellers receive payment immediately and directly, the 3% isn't deducted from the sale itself. Instead, sellers get an itemized invoice once a month covering everything they sold, and pay that 3% — all of it going to charity — as a single payment. Nothing to send at the moment of sale — just settle up once a month.

Disputes are between the buyer and seller. Since payment goes directly between the two of you, any issue with an order — item not received, not as described, etc. — should be worked out directly with the other party first. Admins generally do not get involved in individual transaction disputes, and repeated reports or bad-faith behavior can result in account suspension.

A Couple of Worked Examples

Here's exactly how the math plays out on two real sale amounts, side by side with what the same sale would net on eBay:

$25.00 Item + $10.00 Shipping

Chewie's Cantina

Buyer pays you directly$35.00
PayPal fee (on the sale)-$1.54
You keep immediately$33.46
Monthly invoice (100% Charity)-$0.75
Your net, after invoice paid$32.71

eBay (Collectibles Category)

Buyer pays$35.00
Final value fee (13.25%)-$4.64
Per-order fee-$0.40

Seller receives$29.96

You keep $2.75 more selling here.

$10.00 Item + $5.00 Shipping

Chewie's Cantina

Buyer pays you directly$15.00
PayPal fee (on the sale)-$0.94
You keep immediately$14.06
Monthly invoice (100% Charity)-$0.30
Your net, after invoice paid$13.76

eBay (Collectibles Category)

Buyer pays$15.00
Final value fee (13.25%)-$1.99
Per-order fee-$0.40

Seller receives$12.61

You keep $1.15 more selling here.

PayPal's exact fee can vary slightly by transaction; these examples use PayPal's standard published rate. eBay's fee uses their published collectibles/trading-card final value fee (13.25%) plus their standard per-order fee, current as of 2026 under eBay Managed Payments (payment processing is already included in eBay's final value fee, not charged separately).

eBay charges around 13.25% in fees for collectibles, bundled with payment processing under their Managed Payments system, plus a small per-order fee. At the Cantina, sellers keep a bit more of every sale — while helping fund a good cause along the way.
